Date and Time

Purpose

Use the Date and Time form to set the 3300 ICP system date and time. The form supports synchronization of system date and time and automatic adjustment for Daylight Savings Time based on the zoneinfo Zoneinfo is a collaborative database of the world's time zones, and is primarily intended for use with computer programs and operating systems. Zoneinfo is also sometimes referred to as the Olson or the tz database.database and Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers.

Conditions

IMPORTANT: To ensure that the system adjusts for Daylight Savings Time (DST), avoid setting the system time within an hour of the DST transition.

Field Descriptions

Parameter

Description

Default Value

Synchronize

Enables or disables system date and time synchronization with the NTP server.

This field is read-only for the MXe Server.

Enabled for the MXe Server. Disabled for all other controller types.

Synchronization with NTP Server

NTP Server DNS

Specifies the DNS address of an NTP server for reference by the system clock.

If the system fails to connect to the NTP server, a maintenance log is generated. The SNTP client then polls the server at regular intervals until the connection is made. If failure to connect continues, a new log is generated for every 10 failed intervals.

This field is read-only for the MXe Server.

As set by MSL for MXe Server; blank for all other controller types.

Time Zone

Time Zone

Specifies the time zone for the system.

  • Note: Time zones include an offset (typically +1) for daylight saving time (DST) if DST is observed in that region. The UTC and GMT options (which are the same) do not include the DST offset. If you choose one of  these options, you will have to manually adjust for DST.

  • Note: The time zone information is Linux-based, which uses the opposite convention that Windows uses to specify GMT-based offsets. In Windows, a positive (+) offset adds time relative to GMT; whereas, in Linux it subtracts it. So GMT+5 in Linux is actually five hours earlier than the GMT time making it, for example, 7:00 AM by the 3300 ICP system clock, when it's 12:00 GMT. In Windows, when it's 12:00 GMT,  the clock in your PC shows 5:00 PM (or 17:00).
