NETSYNCY SETSOURCE (NET SE)

Qualifiers:

<source number>

AUTO

FREERUN

Purpose:

Selects and locks the active clock source to a specific synchronizing source.

Details:

The successful selection of a sync source remains in effect for 24 hours, after which the system automatically returns to its normal mode of operation (i.e., auto sync source selection). Once set, the sync source is unaffected by restarts.

The command in the first example entry, if successful, causes a fault recorded against the specified synchronization source to be erased. When the active message switch fails to carry out the instruction, the system response is:

NO ACTION TAKEN, ACTIVE MESSAGE SWITCH FAILS TO RESPOND

When the value of the sync source entered in the command line exceeds the range (8) or is not programmed in the Network Synchronization form, the system response is:

NO ACTION TAKEN, INVALID SYNCHRONIZING SOURCE

When the synchronizing source specified in the command line is not "AVAILABLE" (as indicated by the output generated by the NETSYNC STATE command) the system response is:

NO ACTION TAKEN, SYNCHRONIZING SOURCE STATUS IS UNAVAILABLE
or
NO ACTION TAKEN, SYNCHRONIZING SOURCE STATUS IS UNKNOWN.

Examples:

Entry: NET SE 2

System Response:

When the synchronizing source is present and valid the system instructs the active message switch to set the active system clock to the specified source. If successful, the system response is:

ACTIVE CTG NOW USING SYNCHRONIZING SOURCE 2.

Entry: NET SE FREERUN

System Response:

In this example the system clock is set to use its own crystal oscillator as the synchronizing source. When the active message switch is successful in setting the active system clock to the freerun mode the system response is:

ACTIVE CTG NOW IN THE FREERUN MODE

When the active message link is unable to respond to the request the system response is:

NO ACTION TAKEN, ACTIVE MESSAGE SWITCH FAILS TO RESPOND

Entry: NET SE AUTO

System Response:

In this example the system is returned to the normal mode of operation (i.e., auto selection of synchronizing source). The system response to this command is one of the two given below, depending on which source is selected and whether the active message switch is successful in setting the active system clock to the specified value.

ACTIVE CTG NOW USING SYNCHRONIZING SOURCE <number>

 or

ACTIVE CTG NOW IN FREERUN MODE

The system may respond with

ACTIVE CTG NOW IN FREERUN MODE

if a free running clock source is considered the system's best opinion.
