UNTIL FAIL or U F

Purpose:

This command allows you to perform diagnostic tests on the DS1 Formatter card or CEPT card. These cards are installed in a DSU cabinet. This command is only supported for the DS1 Formatter card and CEPT card.

Details:

The test message returned by the system falls into one of the following three types: Passed Test, Test Failed, or Not Tested.

If the circuit fails the test, or if it is not possible to carry out the test, a message is returned to indicate the reason for failure, non-test, or test abort. See Maintenance Messages for a description of such messages.

The <hybrid> qualifier is used to specify hybrid 1 or 2. If no hybrid qualifier is entered, both will be tested.

The <channel> qualifier allows a specific channel to be tested.

The APNSS GROUP qualifier permits testing of circuits within an APNSS group. Specific channels (traffic or signaling or both) can be selected for testing by the use of the TRAFFIC, SIGNALING or ALL qualifiers.

To end a test run when the CONTINUOUS qualifier is used, press [CTRL] C. The test run ends immediately, and the following interim message is returned by the system:

Cleaning up diagnostic - wait for COMMAND ABORTED

Upon completion of cleanup, system resources used by the diagnostic are released and the following confirmation message is returned by the system:

COMMAND ABORTED

The system is then ready to receive further commands.

The SEIZE qualifier is used to perform a directed test on a non-busy trunk circuit or trunk card to confirm that the system can seize a trunk. This qualifier is used when a new set of trunks is installed at a site or to locate a potential problem with a trunk. Maintenance personnel must be logged in as INSTALLER to use this command.

A SEIZE test is not allowed if the specified circuit is not programmed for an outgoing circuit, for example, as a DID circuit, or if the circuit is programmed as a delay-start or immediate-start.

The UNTIL FAIL qualifier is used to repeatedly run diagnostic tests until a failure occurs, or until a specific command is issued to cancel the test.  If no fault is found, testing will continue indefinitely, and the [CTRL] C command must be entered to stop the process. A "COMMAND ABORTED" system response indicates the system is ready to receive further commands.

The TEST command is not valid when issued against a FIM, PRC, or CRC card.

Example:

Entry: TE 6 1 2 4 30

System Response:

MC 264AA CEPT Formatter at location 06 1 02 30 PASSED test
Type of diagnostics:  Directed
Channel(s) passed: 30
