The Line Interface module is an optional device that adds an analog phone line (POTS) capability to a Mitel 5220 Dual Mode, 5224, 5324, 5235, 5330, 5340, or 5360 IP phone. Emergency services pinpoint the origin of an emergency call by the CESID that is associated with the phone. This CESID is sent to a Presentation Service Access Point (PSAP), which then directs emergency personnel to the location of the emergency. As an administrator, you must associate a single CESID with each phone. In a teleworker context, it is possible for a phone equipped with a Line Interface Module to be located in a different PSAP coverage area than that of the enterprise, so it is important that you ensure that the emergency services routing is correct to eliminate the possibility that the call will be routed to the wrong PSAP. The Line Interface Module requires additional programming to set up the emergency call routing to select the appropriate PSAP.
Sets with Line Interface Modules configured for failover only mode will have this mode over-ridden automatically when a emergency call occurs, so no special programming is required.
If one or more Line Interface Module-equipped phones share a common analog line for special call handling, the 3300 ICP system emergency call handling should be given preference over analog emergency call handling (with several analog phones sharing the same line, it is difficult to pinpoint where the emergency is occurring). In these configurations, Emergency Call Routing should be set to System only.
The CESID information for the set should point to the home address.
If the remote location (for example, the teleworker's home) is located in the same PSAP coverage area, Emergency Call Routing should be set to Analog Line First. This gives priority to the Line Interface Modules for placing emergency calls, but permits the phone to use the IP line as a back-up when the analog like is busy or out of service.
If the location of a teleworker cannot be guaranteed, use Analog Line Only.
If the remote location (for example, the teleworker's home) is located in a different PSAP coverage area, you need to ensure that an emergency call is not routed to the wrong PSAP (for example, the PSAP that is local to the home phone should receive the call, not the PSAP that is local to the 3300 ICP). To ensure this, you need to set Emergency Call Routing to Analog Line only.
If a hot desk user will be travelling to a site in a different geographic area that uses an entirely different emergency number, ensure that the home system does not restrict the hot desk user from calling the emergency number of that geographical area. For example
A 3300 ICP in the United Kingdom (UK) is configured to allow users to dial a 991 emergency string and route calls to a 991 PSAP in the UK. A UK teleworker then travels to a city in Canada and wants 911 support from the system, such that 911 calls are routed through the analog line to the PSAP for that Canadian city.
At the UK system, you must configure the teleworker phone with a Line Interface Module and set the emergency routing preference to Analog Line Only. Then configure a 911 emergency route for the hot desk user. All UK users, except the teleworker, are COR restricted from dialing the 911 emergency number.
Next restrict only the teleworker from dialing the 991 emergency number in the Class of Service Restriction form of the UK system.
If the teleworker dials 911, the UK switch detects an emergency call and routes the call out the analog line to the 911 PSAP for the system in Canada. If the Teleworker dials 991, the UK system will deny the emergency call. When the teleworker returns to the UK, the system must be reprogrammed to allow the teleworker to make 991 calls again.
Multiline
IP Sets form
Set Auxiliary Module to "LIM" (Line Interface Module).
CESID
Assignment form
Set Route Emergency Calls to the appropriate value (Through System
Only, Through Analog Line First or Through Analog Line only) based on
the set location. The CESID comments field is an appropriate place to
indicate the phone's location.
Multiline
Set Keys form
Assign a key to the set for accessing
the analog line (the key assigned on the 5220 must match that assigned
on the Line Interface Module-equipped set). We recommend that you assign
the same key to all sets equipped with Line Interface Modules to avoid
confusion. This is especially important if any of your users make use
of hot desk operation, since it reassigns key definitions upon login.
ARS Routes
form
Ensure that there is an emergency
route defined for the IP phone, that it is designated
Route Type "E", and it has no associated
digits to follow.
Notes:
To support resiliency, the Line Interface Module must be configured as a second channel device, with emergency call routing configured on both the primary and secondary ICP.
If your 3300 ICP system includes more than one emergency dialing digit string (e.g. 911, 999, & 111), you should block the dialling of inappropriate emergency numbers by using class of restriction configuration (this is a requirement regardless of whether you have Line Interface Modules installed on phones).
