In an SDS enabled network or cluster, you typically perform backups and restores locally on each element, and the backup or restore only applies to the element that you are logged in to.
However, if the element belongs to an SDS Administrative Group that supports Multi-node Management applications, you can choose to back up the databases of all elements that are members of the Administrative Group (see About MNM Backup and Restore and MNM Backup and Restore - Conditions for details).
While the backup or restore is processing, data distribution updates sent by other data-sharing elements are rejected. Update errors caused by the rejected distribution updates are logged on the member element that attempted the distribution.
Notes:
When you restore a backup file, if the backup is significantly older than databases on the other elements in the network or cluster, you may want to synchronize from another node in the SDS network or cluster to ensure that the local element has the latest data from the other elements.
During a system backup, no other users can access any of the web-based tools (5140/5240 IP Phone Online Services, Visual Voice Mail, Desktop Tool, Group Administration Tool, or System Administration Tool) or save changes. To avoid blocking other users, we recommended that you perform system backups outside of business hours.
When restoring the database from an older Release to MCD Release 4.0, the new fields for numbers 1 to 64 in the SIP Device Capabilities form are restored to their default values.
To back up a data-sharing 3300 ICP
Log in locally to the element whose system you wish to back up.
Perform the backup. See Backing up System Information.
After the backup is complete, synchronize the SDS network. See Synchronizing Data.
If necessary, resolve any pending updates or errors. See Resolving Pending Updates or Errors.
To restore a database to a data-sharing 3300 ICP
Log in locally to the element whose system information you wish to restore.
Restore system information. See Restoring the Database.
After the restore is complete, synchronize the SDS network from another element in the network that has the latest data. See Synchronizing Data.
If necessary, perform an event retry to resolve data distribution errors. See Resolving Pending Updates or Errors.
Note: If you are restoring an old database from another element that has never been shared, to a network element that belongs to a data-sharing community, you must re-enable data sharing on that element. To re-enable data sharing, enable the SDS option and then perform a Sync operation from the Network Elements form of one of the other member elements.
