This feature allows a hotel guest to use a guest room industry-standard telephone as a room monitor. The monitor provides a one-way audio call path from the guest room handset microphone to a listener device. The listener device may be an attendant console, line, or trunk. The listener device can only monitor an extension that has been previously activated as a room monitor.
You must program the appropriate COS options and feature access codes before the room monitor feature can be activated.
The Hotel/Motel feature is required to support the room monitor feature.
Normal talk state audio levels will be used for monitored calls.
A room monitor connection remains active until the listener device or room monitor extension goes on-hook.
Any device with a call on soft hold cannot act as a room monitor extension or as a listener device.
A third party call is not allowed to override either the listener device or the room monitor extension in a room monitor connection.
No internal SMDR records will be generated for room monitor connections. External SMDR records for incoming trunks acting as listener devices will be generated if the external SMDR feature is programmed.
The maximum number of simultaneous room monitors is one-tenth the maximum number of active call members defined for each traffic option. (The range is from 12 to 172 for traffic packages 1 to 32).
The room monitor extension should be call forwarded busy or system rerouted busy to an attendant console.
Only single line sets can be activated as room monitor extensions.
Any station trying to set up as a room monitor by first dialing a DISA number or Auto-attendant followed by the room monitor activate feature access code will be disallowed and will receive reorder tone.
While monitoring a room monitor extension, a listener device cannot:
Call park a room monitor extension, or place the room monitor extension on hard or soft hold.
Transfer a room monitor to another party.
Enter or set up a conference.
Swap to a camped-on party.
Only one listener device can monitor a room monitor extension at any one time.
A listener device may go on- and off-hook as many times as desired as long as the room monitor extension remains off-hook.
A console attendant cannot listen to a room monitor extension while another call is displayed in the console's source or destination window.
A console attendant cannot place or answer calls when the console is being used as a listener device.
A DISA trunk can operate as a listener device.
To activate the room monitor feature, the following COS options must be enabled in the Class of Service Options form:
Hotel Room Monitor Setup Allowed: this option controls whether an extension is allowed to operate as a room monitor extension.
Hotel Room Monitoring Allowed: this option controls whether an extension or attendant console is allowed to operate as a listener device.
Assign values to the following feature access codes in the Feature Access Codes form:
Hotel/Motel Room Monitor Setup: enabling this feature access code allows the hotel guest to enter a code to access the room monitor feature.
Hotel/Motel Room Monitor Listen: enabling this feature access code allows a listener device to enter a code to access the room monitor feature.
Ensure that the appropriate COS options and feature access codes have been enabled.
Put the room monitor extension off-hook.
Enter the Hotel/Motel Room Monitor Setup feature access code.
When you have successfully
activated the room monitor feature, leave the room monitor extension off-hook.
Successful activation: You will hear a confirmation tone (same
as paging tone) followed by silence when the feature is activated.
Unsuccessful activation: You will hear reorder tone if the feature
is not activated.
To disconnect the room monitor extension, place the extension on-hook.
Ensure that the appropriate COS options and feature access codes have been enabled.

extension number.
Successful activation:
You will hear a confirmation tone (same as paging tone) followed by the monitored audio from the room monitor when the feature is activated.
IP display telephones:
"Monitor" will be displayed when the monitor feature
is activated. The "Hang-Up/New Call" prompt (where applicable)
will be displayed while the listener device is connected to the room monitor
extension.
Unsuccessful activation:
You will hear reorder tone if the feature is not activated.
IP display telephones: "Not Allowed" will be displayed if the appropriate COS has not been enabled for the listener device or if the dialed extension is not an active room monitor.
"Invalid Number" will be displayed if the listener device dials an invalid number.
An "Already Monitor" display will appear if the listener device attempts to listen to a room that is already being monitored.
Note: If the listener device is a display set calling across DPNSS/MSDN from another system, the system responses will be the same as those indicated above with the following exceptions:
When the listener device is connected to a room monitor extension, the display set prompts will be the same as those provided in normal talk state. However, only the "Hang-Up/New Call" prompt (where applicable) will be effective.
The remote display set will display "Error" if the caller encounters any of the error conditions listed above.
To disconnect the listener device, place the extension on-hook or, where applicable, press the "Hang-Up/New Call" prompt.
You can only monitor a room from an idle 5550 IP console.
Select Guest Services from the Tools menu.
Select Room Monitor.
Dial the room number using the console keyboard.
Listen for three short beeps followed by audio from the room.
If room monitoring is not activated on the room telephone, you will hear reorder tone or a beep.
If you see "Monitor Busy", then another extension is already monitoring the room.
If you see "Class Restricted" or "Access Denied", then the room cannot be monitored because of restrictions on the console or the room telephone.
