Network Synchronization

Purpose:

The Network Synchronization form defines the external clock source used for network synchronization. The external source can be derived from any of the digital links. A maximum of eight sources can be defined. When no external source is defined, the system's internal clock is used, and any connected digital links operate in free-run mode. The Network Synchronization form also defines the slip rate tolerated by the synchronization source.

Use of this form is optional. When synchronization to an external source is not required the form need not be used. When no external source is defined, network synchronization is provided by the system clock.

Use this form when performing the following tasks:

Field Descriptions

Name

Description

Default Value

Cabinet, Shelf, Slot

Enter the location of the unit used for the external clock source.

Blank

Hybrid

Enter the link used for the external clock source. Only one link of a mated pair can be designated as a clock source.

Blank

Slip Rate

Enter the number of allowed slips in a 24-hour period. The range of values is 0 to 9000. If the slip rate threshold is exceeded by the current synchronization source that source is replaced by the next synchronization source. The default value of 3 for the Slip Rate Network Synchronization limit on the Network Synchronization data entry form is too tolerant, especially when the network includes non-Mitel systems. Set the Slip Rate to 5 for a network which contains only Mitel systems and to at least 6 for a network which contains non-Mitel systems.
