Because an IP device may register for service from anywhere on the network, it is possible to move an IP device and DN without authorization and without updating system programming. If information such as Customer Emergency Services IDs (CESID) becomes out-of-date, the result may be that emergency personnel are directed to the wrong location.
The system provides two forms and a number of maintenance logs that display the location of IP devices. You can use these forms and logs to
Ensure that CESID information is kept up-to-date. For instructions on programming CESIDs, refer to CESID Programming
Detect unauthorized device moves.
To monitor device move detection (see details and examples):
Click Device
Connectivity All to view connectivity information for all IP device
DNs registered with the controller
Or
Click Device Connectivity Moved to view connectivity information for moved IP device DNs that have not been acknowledged.
To acknowledge an IP device move:
Select a DN from the list and click Change.
In the Change form, click the Move Acknowledged check box.
Click Save.
Acknowledged moves are cleared from the Device Connectivity Moved form
on refresh.
If required, manually update CESID information for the DN. Refer to CESID Programming for instructions.
The system generates maintenance logs when
An IP device registers with the
controller for the first time (INFO level).
For example, "The IP device, DN 46008, registered at STP
L2 MAC address 00:01:E7:0C:21:32, port 14" (new DN)
The system detects a change in a
device's connectivity information (Warning level).
For example, "The IP device, DN 47084, moved from STP
L2 MAC 00:80:2D:7C:D0:61, port 7 to STP L2 MAC 00:80:2D:7C:D0:61,
port 9" (DN move)
An IP device fails to return a MAC
address and port (Warning level).
For example, "An IP device, with DN 47084, registered at STP L2
MAC address "Not supported", STP Layer 3 Port, "Not Supported".
(No DN location reported)
To view device connectivity logs:
Click All Maintenance Logs.
Select Source in the Go to drop-down list.
Type device move detection in the value field.
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and/or Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) must be enabled wherever MITEL IP devices are connected to your network. Supported IP devices require at least one of these protocols to determine the Layer 2 MAC address and port to which they are connected. If STP and/or CDP is not enabled, the system displays "not supported" in the form fields and logs.
All IP devices are supported with the following exceptions:
Mitel soft phones
Mitel wireless phones (Symbol, DECT, SpectraLink)
DNIC sets
SIP sets
CITELlink Gateway supported sets
Hot Desk devices.
Directory numbers for these phones are not displayed in the Device Connectivity forms.
