The AX Controller is a fully-configurable 3300 ICP that provides additional support for analog telephones and analog trunks. The AX Controller also supports IP and SIP devices and offers the same software features and functions as the other 3300 ICP Controllers. An optional power supply is also available for power redundancy.

One externally accessible module position is available. Embedded voice mail is supported by an optional 4 GB flash card. An internal module position is available for additional DSP resources depending on site requirements, such as G729 compression.
You can use the AX controller as a stand-alone voice platform, integrate it into a network or cluster as a node, or integrate it into a cluster or network as an analog media gateway.
The AX Controller supports:
up to 12 analog cards (288 ports) in the AX Card Chassis. The following analog cards are supported:
24 Port ONSP Card
16 Port ONS Card
4 + 12 Port Combo Card (4 loop start trunk circuits and 12 ONS circuits)
up to two Mitel Mezzanine Cards (MMC):
MMC 1 is accessible on the controller card and supports the modules listed below.
MMC 2 is an internal card for increased DSP and VEC capacity.
You can install one of the following modules in MMC slot 1:
Dual T1/E1 to support the direct connection of T1/E1 trunks
T1/E1 Combo to support the direct connection of T1/E1 trunks and increase DSP resources
Quad BRI to support the direct connection of BRI trunks to the controller
Quad CIM to support up to four ASUs, four ASU IIs, or any combination of up to four ASUs and ASU IIs
Dual FIM to support the connection of up to two R2 NSUs. Note that the AX Controller does not support the BRI NSU or Universal NSU
Quad DSP or DSP II to increase DSP resources in a Branch Office or an Analog Media Gateway configuration
Echo Canceller (128-channel version) to provide cancellation on Ethernet to TDM (E2T channels). Each bi-directional E2T channel requires one bi-directional Echo Canceller channel.
You can install one of the following modules in MMC slot 2:
Quad DSP or DSP II to increase DSP resources in a Branch Office or an Analog Media Gateway configuration
Echo Canceller (128-channel version) to provide cancellation on Ethernet to TDM (E2T channels). Each bi-directional E2T channel requires one bi-directional Echo Canceller channel.
The AX Controller layer 2 switch supports the following features:
Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
Virtual LAN (VLAN)
Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
The AX Controller does not support:
SX-2000 Peripheral Nodes, DSU cabinets, BRI NSUs, Universal NSUs, or additional ASUs.
the following IP phones:
5020 IP
5220 IP
5140 IP
5240 IP
5020 Dual Mode
5220 Dual Mode
all the SNMP statistics that the MXe controller supports,
features such as a firewall, routing, NAT, or remote routing because the AX Controller does not have a built in Internet Gateway.
Although the AX Controller can support up to 288 ONS ports, all 288 ports cannot be active on a call at the same time. Refer to the 3300 ICP Engineering Guidelines for details.
Refer to the Technician's Handbook for instructions on how to install the AX Controller or how to upgrade the internal flash to support embedded voice mail.
To program the AX Controller, follow the same procedures as those used to set up a 3300 ICP controller. In addition, you must program the analog sets and trunks that are supported by the AX Controller.
