Change Licenses and Options

Overview:

Follow this procedure if you are changing licenses and options on an existing system. For setting licenses and options after a new install or upgrade, see Select Licenses and Options.

Before You Begin

Ensure the following:

Programming

To change license options:

  1. License and Option Selection form.

  2. Click Change.

  3. If you have an Application Record ID, enter the number and click Retrieve Licenses to query the Application Management Center (AMC) and retrieve your Purchased Options and Password.

  4. If you do not have an Application Record ID, leave the field blank.  The Retrieve Licenses button will be disabled.

  5. Modify the number of licenses, Country variant, and Configuration Options.

  6. After you have modified the purchased option fields, you must specify a new password.

  7. Click Save to commit your changes to the database (and to the AMC if you have an Application Record ID).
Changes may require a Save/Reboot/Restore or a Reboot (see the table below), during which Voice Mail service may be interrupted for a few minutes.

CAUTION: Do not attempt to restore a database that has a greater number of telephone directory entries into a system that has been re-dimensioned with a smaller number of available directory entries. For example, you could set the Maximum Number of Cluster Elements to 250, flex and configure up to 65000 telephony directory entries, and save the database. Then, if you changed the Maximum Number of Cluster Elements in the License and Option Selection form from 250 back to 30 or 60 elements, the dimension for the Telephone Directory entries would be reduced to 20000 entries. After changing the dimension, you must not attempt to restore the large database into the smaller dimension. The data restore could take several hours to discard the extra entries and in most cases, the controller will reset before the restore is complete.

It is possible to change the Maximum Number of Cluster Elements from a high number to a lower number or to flex the dimension maximums down if you do not have greater than 20,000 entries programmed in Telephone Directory. However, if you have more than 20,000 entries, you will receive error messages during the restore (from DIM 19 to DIM 17) similar to the ones shown here. These messages indicate that the data in these fields is NOT being restored.

These messages will appear regardless of whether data is programmed in the fields.

  • Notes:

  1. If you are installing a new system that does not have any IP User Licenses programmed, a reboot is required after you set the licenses for the first time. However, increases to the number of IP User Licenses are updated immediately without a reboot. If you reduce the number of licenses, after saving the change, you must perform a system backup followed by a database restore.

  2. A change in the number of Mailbox Licenses from zero to any value requires a Reboot.

  3. When you enable the Advanced Voice Mail option,  the voice mail services will be stopped and then restarted. Since there will be a brief interruption in the voice mail services, it is recommended that you enable this option after business hours.

  4. Changing the Maximum Elements per Cluster from 30 or 60 to 250 or 999 is a dimension change, which requires a database restore using Current Dimension Selections.

  5. Changing the Maximum Configurable IP Users and Devices is a dimension change, which requires a database restore using Current Dimension Selections.

  6. The following options must be enabled: Advanced Voice Mail, Tenanting, Remote Management.
