An extension mailbox is the default mailbox type. The mailbox number is usually the same as the subscriber's extension number.
Below is the calling sequence for an Extension mailbox when the Auto Attendant is set up to transfer calls unsupervised. The Auto Attendant can also use supervised transfers to transfer calls. For more information, see Setting the Auto Attendant Transfer Type.
An outside caller calls the company telephone number.
The system answers with the company greeting.
The caller enters an extension number on the keypad.
The extension rings.
If the line is busy or unanswered, the system asks the caller if they wish to leave a message.
The system records a message in the associated mailbox.
The system turns on the telephone message light (if available).
Note: For telephones without message lights, you can set up message notification to the subscriber's extension number - see About Message Notification.
