CESID Logs enable you to monitor and troubleshoot device moves and automatic CESID updates. See Viewing CESID Logs, Log File Storage, How to Use the CESID Logs, and Log Details.
To view Customer Emergency Services ID (CESID) logs:
Choose Maintenance and Diagnostics from the Selection menu.
Click Logs and then click CESID Logs.
Notes:
You cannot delete logs from the browser view.
You can also view the logs from the System Administration view. Choose System Administration from the Selection menu, click Emergency Services Management, and then click CESID Logs.
The logs are ordered by their time stamp, from newest to oldest. The table can contain a maximum of 5000 entries. When the 5000 limit has been reached, the system will overwrite existing logs, from oldest to newest. The administrator may wish to export these logs from time to time to keep a history of CESID changes.
There are two types of CESID Logs: common logs and error logs. The following table lists and explains all the CESID logs you might see and indicates any user action that is required.
Log Examples |
Log Type |
Meaning |
Action Required |
CESID X assigned to multiple L2 ports. |
Common |
The same CESID is assigned to different L2 MAC and Port Addresses. |
A CESID should be assigned to one L2 MAC and Port. Ensure that there are no duplicate CESID assignments. |
CESID Assignment automatically changed due to user-initiated change to L2 to CESID. CESID = 10 |
Common |
This log is generated when a user changes the CESID in the L2 to CESID table, and the system updates the appropriate record in the CESID Assignment form. |
None. |
CESID Assignment cleared by user. |
Common |
This is a record of the user clearing a DN's CESID in the CESID Assignment table. |
None. |
CESID value %s set for DN. |
Common |
This is a record of the CESID being set by the user. |
None. |
L2 to CESID insert or update failed: multiple in-service DNs exist at the same L2 MAC and Port. |
Common |
After a user attempted to change an entry in the L2 to CESID table, the system found multiple in-service devices registering to the same L2 MAC and Port. The change requested by the user will not proceed. This can happen when the L2 switch does not have the preferred L2 protocol enabled or when devices are first plugged into a hub (hubs are not supported). Since there are multiple devices at the same L2 MAC and Port, the system is unable to determine the correct CESID assignment. |
Determine why multiple devices are registering through the same L2 MAC and Port, and fix the problem (e.g., remove the hub, or enable the preferred protocol on the switch.) |
Duplicate DNs at the same L2 MAC and Port caused the L2 to CESID mapping to be cleared. |
Common |
This is similar to the previous example, but it happens when a device registers to an L2 MAC and Port that already has devices registered to it. The system clears the CESID in the L2 to CESID form, since it doesn't know which one is correct. |
Determine why multiple devices are registering to the same L2 MAC and Port, and fix the problem. |
Device Registration. CESID=%s. Source=CESID Assignment. |
Common |
This means that a new device registered to the 3300 ICP, and the CESID from the CESID Assignment form was taken to be correct. |
None. |
Device Registration. CESID=%s. Source=L2 to CESID Mapping. |
Common |
This means that a new device registered, and the only CESID available was in the L2 to CESID Mapping table (table would have to have been pre-populated by a user). The CESID from the L2 to CESID table was used to assign the CESID in the CESID Assignment form. |
None. |
Device Registration. No CESID Available. |
Common |
This means that a device registered, but there was no CESID available in the L2 to CESID table or the CESID Assignment table. |
Assign a CESID to the device (see Assign a Missing CESID). |
Device Move. CESID=%s. Source=L2 to CESID Mapping. |
Common |
This means that the device moved to a new L2 MAC and Port, and that there was a CESID mapped to that new L2 MAC and Port, so that CESID was used to update the CESID Assignment form. |
None. |
Device Move. No CESID available at new L2 port. CESID Assignment cleared. |
Common |
This means that a device moved to an unknown L2 MAC and Port (i.e., no CESID assigned to this port) so the system cleared the CESID Assignment for that DN, in the CESID Assignment form. |
Assign a CESID to the device at its new location (see Assign a Missing CESID). |
Device Registration. CESID mismatch. CESIDs cleared. |
Common |
This means that a device registered, but the CESID in the L2 to CESID Mapping table did not match the one in the CESID Assignment form. Both CESIDs are cleared in this case. |
Re-assign the correct CESID (can be done in either the L2 to CESID form or CESID Assignment form). See Assign a Missing CESID. |
Unable to handle device registration. Check CESID assignment. |
Error |
This means some unexpected error occurred analyzing the reported L2 MAC and Port data, and so the CESID Assignment analysis could not be completed. |
Check the CESID Assignment form to ensure the device has the correct CESID. |
Unable to retrieve CESID by L2. Check CESID assignment. |
Error |
This means the system was unable to read the L2 to CESID Mapping form. |
Check the CESID Assignment form. |
Unable to retrieve CESID by DN. Check CESID assignment. |
Error |
This means that the system was unable to read the CESID Assignment form. |
Check the CESID Assignment form. |
Unable to blank CESID Assignment. CESID may be incorrect. |
Error |
This means that a database error occurred while attempting to blank a CESID. |

Unable to update CESID Assignment. CESID may be incorrect. |
Error |
This means that a database error occurred while attempting to update a CESID. |
