Change Resource Dimensions

Overview:

Before changing dimensions, ensure that you have a current database backup. Refer to Backup Procedure for more information.

For information about changing dimensions, see Flexible Dimensioning and Guidelines for Changing Dimensions.

CAUTION: Do not attempt to restore a database that has a greater number of telephone directory entries into a system that has been re-dimensioned with a smaller number of available directory entries. For example, you could set the Maximum Number of Cluster Elements to 250, flex the number of available telephone directory entries up to 65,000 and save the database.  You could then flex the database down again to a lower number of entries (for example 50,000 entries). After flexing the dimension down, you must not attempt to restore the large database into the smaller dimension. The data restore could take several hours to discard the extra entries. In most cases, the switch will reset before the restore is complete.

Programming

To program Dimension changes:

  1. Dimension Selection form
Click Change. You will receive a warning that changes may impact performance. Click OK.

  2. Change the value in the New # of Units column to decrease a parameter.
You cannot increase the total memory used. The default memory is at system capacity.

  3. Change the value in the New # of Units column to increase the selected parameter.
The only time that the New # of Units will not match the Current # of Units is before a Save.

  4. Click Test to confirm that your pending changes have not exceeded system capacity.
If you have made an increase that is larger in bytes than a corresponding decrease, you will receive an error message.

  5. Click Save after you have made all changes.
The Save button is disabled until after the Test button has been clicked.

  6. Reboot To reboot the system, press the Reset button on the Controller.

the system for changes to take effect.

  7. Restore the database. In the Restore Database window, accept Use existing Dimension Selections.

  8. Note: If your system's dimensions memory becomes a negative figure as a result of a software upgrade, you must reduce dimensions to eliminate the negative value before you can make any other dimension changes.
