Night Service switches the system from day service to night service and vice versa. When the system is placed into night service (usually at the end of the workday) incoming external calls ring at an extension(s) selected by the Administrator.
Extensions can check whether the system is in Day or Night service, but only extensions that have the required Class of Service can change the Day/Night Service mode. An answering point can be a single device (attendant console, station, trunk, or night bell) or a hunt group. The answer point used depends on the selected mode of operation (Day, Night 1 or Night 2).
After a system reboot:
The Night Service setting is restored to the same service (Day, Night1, or Night 2) that it was in before the reboot regardless of whether Programmed Service is on or off.
The first 5550 IP console that comes into operation on the system after a reboot will be in "OPERATOR PRESENT" mode. All other 5550 IP consoles will be in "OPERATOR ABSENT" mode.
If tenanting is configured on the system, then the Landlord (or Default Tenant) will be restored with the same service setting that it had before the reboot. If a tenant is configured to follow the default tenant, then the tenant will have the same service setting as the default tenant had before the reboot. All other tenants will come up in Night 1 service.
If a non-default tenant has the Landlord or Default Tenant programmed as its night service leader and the system comes back up in Day service after a reboot, the non-default tenant's 5550 IP console will come up in "OPERATOR PRESENT" mode if it is the first console to come up after the system reboot.
Error tones may be heard if there is a dialing error (reorder tone), or if there is no response from a remote system (busy tone).
If a 5550 IP console user places the system in night service, only that console is set to "OPERATOR ABSENT" mode. If the system is placed into night service from an extension, the Operator absent/present status of all 5550 IP consoles remains unchanged. If the system is placed into night service as a result of a power outage, All 5550 IP consoles will appear in Operator absent mode.
Any attendant can place a console into night service; however, the attendant cannot be involved in a call or in message mode when changing the service mode.
If a SUPERCONSOLE 1000 or 5540 IP Console has the SC1000 Attendant Basic Function Key enabled in the Class of Service Options assignment form, that console cannot be used to change from day service to night service (or vice-versa).
A Night Service key to monitor or switch service modes cannot be programmed because it is not in the list of programmable features.
For an alternate method to switch the system between night and day service that includes a calendar with provision for holidays, see Scheduling Events.
Enter answer points for Day, Night 1, and Night 2 service in the Trunk Attributes form.
To configure a night bell, connect the bell to ONS or OPS line. Enter the directory number of an ONS or OPS line as the night answer points in the Trunk Attributes form. Then enter the directory number of the ONS or OPS line in the "Night Bell Directory Number" field of the System Acess Points form.
Enable Dialed Night Service in the Class of Service Options form for the station that is permitted to switch day/night service.
